School Board Study

An analysis and comparison of Northshore K-12 School system funding and performance.

Executive Summary

This study compares and contrasts the four Northshore school districts – St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish, and City of Bogalusa – to high-performing Louisiana and out-of-state districts. St. Tammany Parish is the only Northshore district in the top half of Louisiana rankings, but it has fallen from fourth position (out of 70) in 2010 and 2011 to 18th in 2019. Washington Parish schools have averaged a rank of 39th over the last ten years, with Tangipahoa Parish and Bogalusa averaging 50th and 66th over the same 10-year period. The rankings of both St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes fell markedly when the Louisiana Department of Education revised their District Performance Score (DPS) formula to include student progress assessments.
